Resource summary

Multiplying cells
  1. advantages of being multicellur
    1. bigger - travel further - get nutrients in different ways - fewer things can eat and squash you
      1. cell differentiation - one cell doing doing everything - different cells instead doing different jobs
        1. specially adapted
          1. more complex
            1. speciallised organs- different shapes and behaviour adapted specially to their environment
          2. specialised organ systems:
            1. communication system = nervous sytem
              1. cells with nutrients they need = circulatory sytem
                1. exchange of substances = respiratory sytem
                2. mitosis = new cells for growth and repair
                  1. cell reproduces itself by spilting - forming 2 identical offspring
                    1. 1. DNA replicated
                      1. 2. DNA coils into double armed chromosomes - arms are exact copies of each other - same DNA
                        1. 3. chromosomes line up at center of the cell - divide as cell fibres pull them apart - 2 arms of each chromosome go to opposite poles
                          1. 4. membranes form around each of the 2 different sets of chromosomes
                            1. 5. cytoplasm divides - 2 new cells = same genetic material as original
