  1. Method's Of Persuasion

    • Ethos
      • Uses Mayor to show that he is the wall between change. Multiple people who have had first hand experience at young ages to sway audience in favour of students. Principal and teacher to show how the situation generally instead of 4 specific students.
    • Pathos
      • Uses music to set mood. Uses stories of abuse to make audience empathize with students. Uses suicide rates to make audience understand that a change is needed.
    • Logos
      • The students used logos to their advantage by keeping idea simple, proposing for sobriety to be the norm, and using the statement that alcohol>clean drinking water. Ideas appealing due to logical reasoning.
  2. Conventions

    • Talking Heads
      • Linden, Ayla, Camryn, and Paywapin were all interviewed. The purpose of the interviews were to explain their stories and how they were feeling about certain situations such as presenting in city hall
        • After, I did this when consulting a friend.
    • Real People
      • Was done in specific order, most impacted to least impacted, and based off of different situations. Linen, first hand experience. Camryn, through parents abusing and finding a safe space. Ayla, friend dying due to intoxicated driver. Paywapin, would rather not be with intoxicated influencers
        • After
    • Jiggly Camera
      • Jiggly Camera used to make the viewer feel as if they were there. Done at city hall. Also used for the interviews with the kids to show nervousness. Nervousness makes viewers feel nervous as well.
    • Voiceover Narration
      • Mainly done to give context to a situation or just over background footage. Camryn talking about his safe space while having background footage of the safe space
        • After
  3. Methods Of Development

    • Anecdote
      • Anecdote of Ayla, Camryn, Lenen, and Paywapin all show different perspectives of how alcohol has affected people and shows firsthand experience among students who are underaged
    • Statistics
      • More than 50% deaths related to alcohol, shows how much of a change is neccesary. City is #3 most dangerous in all of Canada, shows how deep the issue is.
    • Cause and Effect
      • Accessible drinking leads to more issues, no tight leash on where alcohol goes. The sign being proposed makes sober look like the norm, and gives a different mindset towards drinking. Drinking being normalized causes people to be more successful.
    • Compare and Contrast
      • Alcohol more accessible than clean drinking water shows how little government cares about stopping this, and how students only have themselves. Generation that felt pain like no other, therefore call to action
  4. Codes

    • Technical Codes
      • Camera Angles
        • Longshot done with group photo of the highschool students, shows bond created between students. Longshot also done to show large amount of people present at city hall, which shows the pressure on the students.
        • Close ups were used for the interview to show expressions on their faces, and hardships they've been through.
        • Medium close up during interviews to show body language, body language shows emotion.
    • Symbolic Codes
      • Music
        • Music is used to set atmosphere. During interview, sad music played for sad stories being told. During city hall when they obtained government support happy music played
      • Setting(s)
        • Setting mainly at school, city hall. Other settings were train tracks, grandma's house. The school represents place of action. City hall represents place of change. Train tracks were a place of "free thought". Safe space was an area to relax.
          • A little long, shorten
  5. In the documentary, "Sober House", by Wendell G. Collier, the four Wesmor high school students deal with the large issue of alcohol abuse with a simple solution, a sign that says your house is sober. This simple solution will create safe havens, and lower the amount of children affected by alcohol abuse. (So that there are more opportunities for children to be successful)
