Resource summary

Bonding Types
1 Covalent Bonding
1.1 Shared pair of electrons between atoms.
1.2 Dative Bond: Bond where only 1 of the bonded atoms provides both electrons for the bonds.
2 Ionic Bonding
2.1 Electrostatic force of attraction between oppositely charged ions.
2.2 Common Ions
2.2.1 Nitrate: NO3(-)
2.2.2 Carbonate: CO3(2-)
2.2.3 Sulfate: SO4(2-)
2.2.4 Ammonium: NH4(+)
3 Metallic Bonding
3.1 Attraction of positive ions to delocalised electrons.
3.2 Giant Metallic Lattice Properties
3.2.1 Malleable: Can be hammered into shape.
3.2.2 Ductile: Can be stretched out.
3.2.3 High BP/MP: Attraction between electrons and positive ions is very strong, so a lot of energy is required to break the bonds.
3.2.4 Conduct Electricity: Delocalised electrons can move freely anywhere in the lattice
