Language Fundamentals
ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Exchange)
- Represents alphanumeric characters by 7 bits
Unicode: attempts to include all characters in all languages by using 16 bits, increased to 32
- 32 bits is not efficient. Character encoding make it efficient: UTF-8(16,32)
Several types of seperators with different uses: (), {}, [], etc.
Primitive is another data type: byte, short, int, float, double, char, boolean
Variables are placeholders. Two types: reference and primitive
- Constant: varaible whos values cannot be chagned, denoted by "final"
- Source code representation of a fixed value: Literal
- Literals of primitive types, string, and null literals
