Polynomial Divisions Final

  1. Characteristics

    • The grade of the dividend D(x) is greater than or equal to the grade of the divisor d(x).
    • Follows the laws of exponents
    • In polynomial divisions we STOP dividing when the exponent of the denominator is greater than the numerator
  2. POLYNOMIAL ÷ MONOMIAL

    • If the divisor is a linear polynomial its a SYNTHETIC division.
    • Numerical Example
  3. Polynomial ÷ Polynomial (LONG DIVISION)

    • The divisor is written outside the right parenthesis, while the dividend is placed within. The quotient is written above the bar on top of the dividend.
    • Involves 5 steps: Divide , Multiply, Subtract, Bring down and Repeat or Remainder
    • Numerical Example
  4. Synthetic Division

    • Shorthand method of polynomial division when dividing by a linear factor
    • Divisor must be a polynomial of degree one
    • Coefficient of the divisor variable (x) must be a one
    • Numerical Example:
