Spartan Society - The Homoioi

The Equals
1. Also called 'Homoioi'
  1. All Spartan men were assigned a plot of land and some slaves
    1. Slaves were called 'Helots'
    2. The land was the source of the income
      1. Helots did all the farming and all the manual jobs
    3. To be a Homoioi, you had to be the son of a Spartan mother and father
2. All their attention was on being the best soilder
  1. Didn't have a 'normal' job
Also had to be brought up in the strict disapline of the agoge schooling system
1. This meant being trained for battle from a young age
You had to belong to a dining or mess club
1. This was called a 'syssition
2. This was a group of 15 people who always ate dinner together
  1. You had to be 20 years old
In the Syssition, you had to be voted in by all the other members to be able to join
