1. What is ICT?

   • The use of technology for the input, processing, storage and transfer of data and the output of information

2. ICT Systems

   • Output from a system goes directly to a human being or onto another ICT system
   • INPUT - PROCESS - OUTPUT
   • Holiday Booking System
     • Input -Date of departure
     • Processing - Cost of holiday for chosen destination for 2 Adults & 2 Children
     • Output - Holiday itinerary together w/ detailed costs on screen and printed

3. Components of an ICT System

   • People
     • Needed to enter data and for non - ICT procedures
   • Data
     • Raw facts, figures or set of values that, without context, have no useful meaning to a human user
   • Procedures
     • Involve non - ICT procedures to allow system to run
       • Correct paper type in printer
       • Backing up important data files to a removable storage medium
   • Software
     • All programs that make up the ICT system and data held within it
       • Applications
       • Communications
       • Systems
   • Hardware
     • All physical components that make up computer system
   • Information
     • Data that has been processed or converted to give it meaning
