Network Security Threats

  1. Brute-Force Attacks

    • A brute-force attack is a systematic attack where each possible combination of characters are tried in order to discover your passwords
    • Brute-force attacks can be prevented by using a strong password that isn't easy to figure out, this means passwords only you would be able to understand are strongest, Brute-force Attacks can also be prevented with 2FA, as that second password is unique to you and the company providing it
  2. DDoS

    • Similarly to DoS, a DDoS overload is the same concept of overloading a network, however separate parties are used to constantly overflow the network
    • DDoS and DoS can be stopped by using a strong firewall to prevent the overflow of packets by the malicious sender
  3. DoS

    • DoS is an overload of requests being sent to a network to prevent it from responding normally
  4. Phishing/ Social Engineering

    • Phishing is a third party pretending to be a legitimate company or service in order to gather your personal information, like bank details or passwords to use them maliciously
    • Phishing can be avoided by looking out for the signs of illegitimacy such as poor grammar, incorrect details such as your name or location and the party being rather sheltered with the information they share.
    • Social Engineering can be prevented with user levels and biometric measures, as an unauthorized user cannot replicate your physical features and also cannot interact with anything on a higher authorization level
  5. Malware

    • Malicious Software is designed to syphon, steal or destroy personal data like your passwords, information and data.
    • Malware can be prevented with Anti Malware Software, which will pick up on and quarantine the Malicious file until you remove or permit it
  6. SQL Injection

    • SQL Injection can be prevented with penetration testing, where the weaknesses can be identified and fixed
