1. Errors

   • syntax error
     • occurs when text that is not valid code is found
   • runtime/execution error
     • occurs when the program tries to perform an impossible operation
   • logical error
     • program executes and exits with no errors but the program does not do what is expected
   • linking error
     • occurs when a program tries to import a file that does not exist
   • rounding error
     • occurs when a value is rounded and loses accuracy
   • truncation area
     • occurs when data must be shortened to fit

2. program construction

   • assemblers
     • translates assembly language to machine code
   • compilers and interpreters
     • compilers
       • translate high level code all at once to produce a machine code file
     • interpreters
       • translates and executes code one line at a time

3. levels of computer language

   • high level language
     • designed to resemble a natural labguage like english - easy to read and undesrtstand
   • low level language
     • uses the instruction set of a CPU - does not resemble natural language and is hard to read and understand
