  1. INGESTION: where food is taken into mouth cavity
    1. MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN: large pieces are broken down to increase surface area for action of enzymes
      1. PERISTALSIS: movement of food via squeezing of muslces
        1. CHEMICAL BREAKDOWN: enzymes are responsible for breakdown of organic compounds
          1. ABSORPTION: occurs across the small intestine which has a large surface area due to villi
            1. ELIMINATION: removal of undigested food in the form of faeces
              1. water and organic compounds

              3. oesophegus & small intestine
