Winston Smith - Part l

  1. He is the main character of the story

    • He is introduced as the main character and the story develops around him. In the first chapter we can notice that he is the main character as the author starts to explain all about him and the situation he lives in, so that makes us infer that he is the main character of this story.
  2. He is a round character

    • In the first chapters the author presents us that what he is doing in his diary is private and he wants to keep it that way, but as the story goes on he starts to meet people that think the same way as him, so his thought are not that private at that part of the story.
  3. He is a static character

    • In what we have read in the story, he has not changed due to a conflict, so he is static at the moment.
  4. Text-to-text

    • Dewey Finn from school of rock, because he doesn't care about the rules about the music class and wants his students to find themselves through music, as well as Winston, that wants there to be a change against the Party and wants people to live in peace and equality.
  5. Text-to-self

    • Winston is similar to me in the aspect that we don't like some things the government does and wants to make a change so people can live peacefully with freedom and no corruption.
  6. Text-to-the-world

    • I can connect Juan Guaido to Winston, because he wants to make a change for his country and wants to end with corruption and injustice to the people.
  7. He is a frail, thin, thirty-nine year old man that has an ulcer above his right ankle. In the first pages of the first chapter, they give us his description, making it clear for us that he is going to be the main character in the story.

  8. His personality is rebellious and helpful, and wants there to be peace and freedom. We can see this in the first chapters, when they introduce us to his diary and what he writes on it, we can se that he is helpful when he helps Mrs. Parsons to fix her sink.

  9. He thinks that there needs to be a revolution against the Party and his members. We can notice this in all the chapters we have read, where the author states clearly that he is in disagreement with the Party and wants to do something to change the society for good.
