Program Control Structures

  1. Introduction

    • Control structures are one of the most basic and essential concepts in programming. They allow programmers to manipulate the program. Once learned they are easy to pick up in other languages.
    • 3 main control structures
      • Sequence
      • Selection
      • Repetition (Iteration)
  2. Sequence

    • A list of instructions carried out one after another in a predetermined order. The sequence can contain any number of actions, but no actions can be skipped in the sequence.
  3. Methods

    • A group of statements that program a task./ Blocks of code that perform a specific task. Used when a class (which are used in C# to organise the program) needs to do something. Every C# program has at least one class with a method named Main. The main method is the one that gets executed first and C# checks every class in your code to find the one that reads static void Main(). Then, when the program is run, the first statement in this method gets executed and everything else follows from that first statement. Allows is to reuse the code and carry out a set of computations more than once. They take an input and return an output. They can also take multiple inputs or no input, have multiple outputs or no outputs at all C# provides built in methods which are supplied as part of the language. We can declare and define our own methods to do what we want them to do. These are called user defined methods.
