   • represents Satan
     • Offered Macario false riches, and things that didn't belong to him

2. El forestero

   • represents Christ
     • Owns everything, therefore doesn't need Macario's turkey
       • He wanted a gesture from Macario as a test

3. La Muerte

   • appeared as a starving man
     • related to Macario- was actually in need
       • repaid Macario far beyond what he ever could have dreamed

4. Macario

   • Main Character
     • poorest man in the villiage
       • his only desire is to eat an entire turkey by himself
         • his wife worked for three years to buy a turkey for him
           • he takes the turkey to the woods to enjoy by himself
             • encounters three strangers asking for some of the turkey, decides not to share with the first two
               • because he shared with La Muerte, he was given miracle water to heal at La Muerte's decision, and from healing he became very rich.

       • has 11 kids with his wife
