  1. How is power distributed?
    1. Unitary
      1. A state governed as one single power in which the central government is ultimately supreme and any administrative divisions exercise only powers that their central government chooses to delegate.
      2. Confederation
        1. A confederation is a system of government in which sovereign states delegate power to a central government for specific purposes. Examples: defense and the regulation of trade
        2. Federal
          1. The people have not delegated all the powers of governing to one national government. Certain powers are delegated to the national government. All other powers are reserved by the states or the people The division of power helps to limit the growth of tyranny
        3. How do people get power?
          1. Autocratic
            1. Supreme power is concentrated in the hands of one person, whose decisions are subject to neither external legal restraints nor regularized mechanisms of popular control
            2. Oligarchic
              1. A form of government run by a small number of people such as wealthy landowners, royalty or powerful military figures.
              2. Democratic
                1. A system of government in which the power is given to the people, who rule either directly or through electing representatives. There are 2 main types:
                  1. Parliamentary- A form of government in which the party or parties with the greatest representation in the parliament forms the government, there leader becomes the prime minister or chancellor and has the ability to dissolve parliament
                    1. Presidential-A form of government, which is based on the separation and sharing of powers among three independent and coordinate branches of government: legislative, executive, and judicial. The head of the executive branch is know as the president and he is known as the commander and chief of the military
