  1. Consisted of 3 fields surrounding a single village
    1. Open plan fields - could go on for miles
      1. each family would have a strip of land
        1. Their to work on - but there was no guarantee you'd get good land
    2. COMMON LAND
      1. Patch of land in middle of village that anyone could use
        1. Could be used to graze animals or to get wood for fires or thatch a roof
          1. People depended on common land!
      2. Villagers had common rights - lived and worked together = community spirits
        1. This made their lives a little bit easier - boosted spirits
          1. BUT - if a couple of people were inefficient, it could bring down the entire system in that area
        2. In 1700 - 50% of people in England still using Open Field
          1. Because it's mostly found where the land is flat
            1. The land of England is flat and this system concentrated on arable farming as opposed to pasture farming
