  1. Returned to Frenchtown at 18 after enlisting himself in WW2 3 years before.
    1. He wears a bandage, a scarf and a basketball cap to hide what is left of his face, keeping himself as anonymous as he can.
      1. Leapt on a grenade and saved the rest of his platoon, he earned a silver star by doing this.
        1. His face was blown away, this gives the impression that Francis was a hero above all others as he was at a young age and still saved others.
          1. People who knew him at the time thought he was a hero too.
            1. It is after his return to Frenchtown that the real purpose of him going to war becomes clear.
              1. After an incident with another supposed hero and Francis' girlfriend at that time (Nicole Renard) Francis contemplates suicide...
                1. By throwing himself from the church's steeple but then changes his mind because of his strict catholic religion and the thoughts of his parents...

              2. Francis is a man with a mission. He wants to kill his childhood hero, Larry LaSalle.
                1. It eventually transpires that Larry sexually abused Francis’ girlfriend, Nicole, and at the time he felt powerless to stand up to him.
                  1. Ever since, he has felt responsible for what happened to Nicole.
                    1. Initially he was so guilty and despondent that he contemplated suicide, but he chose to join the army instead hoping that he would be killed.
                      1. Having survived the war he has decides to live long enough to exact revenge after which he plans to kill himself.
