INPUT AND OUTPUT DEVICES

Input devices:
1. allow user to enter data into computer
2. mouse- pointing and inputting device
3. keyboard- used to enter text
4. game controller -used for gaming
5. webcam -used to input visual data. can be peripheral or inbuilt
6. touch screen- input device controlled by finger or stylus
7. microphone -used to input audio data. can be peripheral or inbuilt.
8. joystick- used for gaming -used to control devices e.g. robots, CCTV cameras
9. graphics tablet -used to input drawings
10. scanner -digitises printed documents -Optical Character Recognition (OCR) can turn text into an editable format
11. touch-sensitive jog dial -used for simple actions like skipping a song
Output devices
1. speakers -peripheral or inbuilt devices allowing you to hear audio ouput
2. docking station -amplifies audio ouput of small devices -charges device
3. allow the user to view, hear or print processed data
4. headphones -allow just one person to hear audio output
5. printer -allows you to produce 'hard copy'
6. headset -combines microphone and headphones to input and output audio data
7. screen -inbuilt display screens (e.g. laptop, smartphone) or monitor
storage devices
1. allow the user to store data so it can be used again
WORKED EXAMPLE Jo has a new games console. State two input devices that she might use with it.
