Resource summary

B-LYMPHOCYTES
  1. Produce ANTIBODIES
    1. HUMORAL RESPONSE
    2. Made in BONE MARROW from PLURIPOTENT cells
      1. Mature in BONE MARROW
        1. When the encounter an antigen they become SENSITISED
      2. They then migrate to Lymphoid tissue for further processing
        1. 2 Types of cell develop
          1. PLASMA CELLS-secrete antibodies and clusters which are called clones
            1. MEMORY CELLS-respond to another encounte
              1. Stimulates plasma cells to produce antibodies
        2. Initiated by ACTIVATION PHASE
          1. Macrophages phagocytose and display epitopes
            1. (antigen presentation)
              1. T-HELPER cells recognise and bind to displayed antigen
          2. Activated T-HELPER cells trigger specific B-CELLS to proliferate and produce antibodies
            1. Divide by mitosis and differentiate into plasma cells(secrete antibodies)
              1. Circulate in blood, lymph and mucous membranes
            2. Produce memory cells (PRIMARY RESPONSE)
              1. Second encounter is therefore quicker (SECONDARY RESPONSE)
