1.1 Some subcultures unite young people with similar economic status.
1.2 J Clarke (1976) stated that 'Skinhead' cultures join to release their frustration at being poor and unemployed.
2 Ethnicity
2.1 Ethnicity clearly links some groups of young people. Music, style and dance link people of similar ethnicities
3 Gender
3.1 In the past, subcultures used to be gender specific.
3.2 McRobbie and Garber (1976) referred to this as the bedroom culture
3.3 They identified a strong culture among youth teenage girls. This culture was based around romance, fashion and the private domestic space of the girls' bedrooms. This has become known as the 'bedroom culture
