          1. In the past, subcultures used to be gender specific.
            1. McRobbie and Garber (1976) referred to this as the bedroom culture
              1. They identified a strong culture among youth teenage girls. This culture was based around romance, fashion and the private domestic space of the girls' bedrooms. This has become known as the 'bedroom culture
