The Lungs
When you breathe in your lungs expand because ;
- Your diaphragm contracts and moves down so that the new oxygen can fill the lungs
- Your intercostal muscles (the muscles between your ribs )are contracting to lift your ribs up and outwards
When the muscles in your thorax relax this means you are brething out
- Breathing in increases the size of your thorax
