Annotations:

  • Renaissance is the main topic of this mind map. It is a time period in Europe where rebirth of classical thoughts travels through travelers and students to each country in Europe.
  1. Art

    Annotations:

    • When people got wealthy, they will seek for the quality of life. The need of art breed many beautiful art by great artists. 
    1. Sculpture

      Annotations:

      • Sculptures is a big part of art, artists like Donatello and Michelangelo leaved beautiful works for the later artists to study. 
      1. Donatello

        Annotations:

        • His work David was one of the earliest work that shows proportion and facial expression. 
        1. Michelangelo

          Annotations:

          • Michelangelo's sculpture was described "the softest clothing carved by the hardest marble" His works influenced on later artists.

          1. Leonardo da Vinci

            Annotations:

            • Leonardo da Vinci wasn't only famous on art and painting, but also every field that is studied at the time. His creativity and inventions are still used today. For example, the airplane.

              Annotations:

              • Michelangelo was a great artist, his famous work on the Creation of Adam shows his knowledge of human body and proportion.

                Annotations:

                • Raphael is known for the calm and peace his paintings shows. His work is still studied today, and is one of the three giants in Renaissance.

                  • Unlike the Medieval period, artists in the renaissance put lots of effort on the perspective. Which means the subject that are closer appears bigger, and the ones that are away appears smaller.

                  Annotations:

                  • Most artist made money by being patrons of royal family. Their surrounding made them produce more arts and more creations.
                3. Architecture

                  Annotations:

                  • There are many Renaissance buildings, such as churches, that last till today, this is because of the well engineering and calculations. The building stye also influenced engineers in the future.

                    • Brunelleschi is the greatest engineer at the time.

                      Annotations:

                      • Ancient greek ideas were part of the classical ideas. The  adopted ideas were mostly about art.

                        • Ancient rome is a important part of  classical ideas. They are famous for strong politics and armies.

                        Annotations:

                        • Humanities is one of the most important reason for renaissance to change Europe so much. For that people became much wealthyer, they spend much time studying the  knowledges.

                          • Humanism is important because it makes people think about how good and bad, right and wrong really are.
                          1. Philosophy

                            Annotations:

                            • Since renaissance is the time where people changed how they define right and wrong, philosophy is important. Philosophy is the main subject that tells people what should be allowed.

                              Annotations:

                              • A branch of pholosophy, involves systematizing, defending, and recommending concepts on right and wrong. It changes how people think, and effect the principle of people.
                              1. Petrarca

                                Annotations:

                                • Petrarch(Petraca) was the first one to focus on philosophy. He was also called the father of philosophy.

                              Annotations:

                              • History is one of the subject that is a part of humanities. 
                              1. Literature

                                Annotations:

                                • Literature is part of Humanities. From ancient to the renaissance, literature and words had changed from only for recording events into a type of art.
                                1. Non Religious Themes

                                  Annotations:

                                  • Writings and arts were often about religious stories at the time. But some of the writings are about non religious themes. It's important because people share opinions but not stories of religion. 
                                  1. Miguel Cervantes

                                    Annotations:

                                    • His novel Don Quixote is one of the most famous novel on the world. It is non religious and was the most famous novel at the time.
                                  2. Shakespeare

                                    Annotations:

                                    • Shakespeare was a famous poet and playwright that changes te world with his drama. 
                                  3. Change

                                    Annotations:

                                    • Humanities changes the thoughts of people a lot. The change doesn't only effect people in the humanities area, but also in other fields.

                                    1. Nicolaus Copernicus

                                      Annotations:

                                      • His most famous theory of Earth orbits the sun effects almost all of the scientists after. His book got banned by the Catholic Church and wasn't got released until 200 years after his death.
                                      1. Galileo Galilei

                                        Annotations:

                                        • Galileo was effected by Copernicus and he proved that Earth orbits the Sun. His book also got banned from the Church, but still changes science in the renaissance. 
                                        1. Power of the Church and Kings Challenged

                                          Annotations:

                                          • The development in astronomy is against the bible which it saids God place earth in the middle of the world, so scientist's work such as Copernicus and Galileo got banned by the Church.
                                          1. Medicine

                                            Annotations:

                                            • Medicine is important to the renaissance because the progress of medicine saved more life and prevent people from getting sick.
                                            1. Andreas Vesalius

                                              Annotations:

                                              • His book on anatomy helped more doctors to understand human body structure. But unlike Galileo and Copernicus, his book didn't get banned. 
                                          2. Printing

                                            Annotations:

                                            • Printing is important because it makes ideas travel faster. Before printing machine was invented, people can only copy a book by hand. After the machine is popular, people can print 300 pages in a day.
                                            1. Famous Printed Bible

                                              Annotations:

                                              • Bible at the time can finally be printed. The first printed Bible was printed by Gutenberg.

                                                • His invention of printing machine increased the speed of printing. His printing machined changes the way ideas spread.

                                                Annotations:

                                                • Politics is important because only when the relationships between countries are peace, the artist and philosopher will exist.

                                                  • Machiavelli wrote a book on which kind of king will successfully rule the kingdom, and which won't. It helps the countries in a age when Churches held much power.

                                                  • Trading didn't just make a country wealthy, it also transform ideas to many countries.

                                                    Annotations:

                                                    • Medici Family held power for their trading business. They made trading more popular and therefore got respected.

                                                      Annotations:

                                                      • Florence, Italy was a trading center to Africa and China. Ideas almost always goes through this city. The best universities in Italy are also in Florence.
