Adjective = Describes a noun
Alliteration - two consecutive words starting with the same letter
Assonance - the repetition of the sound of a vowel in nonrhyming stressed syllable
Caesura - A break between words within a metrical foot, within a Poem
Concrete Noun - a sense or a more physical entity that can be observed by a sense
Connotations - when something means one thing but could symbolize something else
Content - The things that are held or included in something for e.g. Content's page
Context - Something surrounding a specific point of word, e.g. context of a book
Couplet - Rhyming couplet is when two consecutive lines end with a rhyming word
Enjabment - the continuation of a syntactic unit from one line of verse into the next line without a pause
Euphemism - A mild or indirect word or expression when referring to something unpleasant or embarrassing.
Hyperbole - A drastic exaggeration to an unrealistic event or happening that causes emphasis
Imagery - Usually the use of senses, more specifically the sense of sight and similes/metaphors to describe
Metaphor - a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable.
Noun - Is used to identify a Person, Place or Thing, also known as a common noun
Onomatopoeia - A word which sounds like the action it makes e.g. WOOSH! or BANG!
Oxymoron - Putting two opposite words in the same phrase e.g. Pretty Ugly
Pathetic Fallacy - when the whether reflects whats going on in the texts
Personification - describing something that is still and inhumane to have human features
Proper Noun - A name used for an individual person, place, or organization
Purpose - The reason for which something is done
Repetition - When a word is stated more than once to emphasise
Rhythm - A beat or melody to which something is said
Sibilants - the repetition of the 'S' sound in a phrase or sentence
Simile - To say something is 'LIKE' something else
Stanza - Also known as a Verse in the world of poetry
Themes- A recurring message or approach which shows the audience a message or viewpoint
Tone - How something is said or the atmosphere of a text
Abstract Noun - A noun that isn't a physical thing but a feeling or emotion
Allusion - To state something without specifically saying what you mean/what it is
Alternate Rhyme - Found in Poetry with Rhyming words on Alternative lines e.g. ABAB
Archaism - The use of Old language in texts linking the context
Attitudes - Like a theme or a tone of a text, also could be linked with context/ socially
Conceit - An extended metaphor lasting more than just a phrase or sentence
Declarative mood - Where phrases/sentences are said in declaratives
Definite article - A determiner that introduces a Noun
Exclamatory Mood - A group of phrases/sentences said with exclamation mark to emphasise
Eye Rhyme - where it looks like it would rhyme but the words sound different e.g. fear and bear
Iambic - Iamb meaning 2 syllables unstressed stressed
Internal Rhyme - where there is rhyme within the line of a poerm
Interrogative Mood - Where a paragraph or verse is stated with lots of questions
Juxtaposition - contrasting phrases that are close together
Lexis - Words and their Classes
Mode of address - how the audience is addressed
Octet - Poetry stanza with eight Lines
Pentameter = line of poetry with five metrical feet counting to ten syllables
