Unit 2 - Electricity and Electronics.

Resource summary

Internal Resistance
1 Electric Current
1.1 When a switch is closed in a circuit, free electrons in the conductor experience an electric field which causes them to move in one direction.
1.2 Electrons will flow from the negative terminal of a battery to the positive terminal.
1.3 Energy is provided by a chemical reaction in the battery or by the mains power supply to allow the electron current to flow.
2 Electric Power
2.1 P = IV
2.2 Where I is the current through a component and V is the potential difference across a component.
3 Resistive Heating
4 Electromotive Force (e.m.f.)
5 Resistors in series
6 Resistors in parallel
7 Internal resistance
8 Open Circuit
