     • -Keeping in touch with family/friends is possible as there are worldwide communication links
     • Mobile working allows people to work from home meaning less travel
     • Video conferencing can be used for business or even to speak with family to avoic cost of travel
     • More aware of current affairs as the news and documentaries produced on TV give detailed accounts of the main issues
   • Disadvantages of Communication in ICT
     • Many people are unfit due to the use of computers which creates a more sedentary life style
     • Less people are having face to face conversations and losing their conversational skills
     • Theft and crime has increased in the case of mobile phones that are high value and easy to steal

2. Gaming & Entertainment

   • Gaming is a specific aspect of ICT type entertainment
   • Games consoles
     • X-box 360, NintendoWii, PS3
     • They all have very high quality imaging and often expensive
   • Advantages of gaming
     • Gaming can be socialable when played betwen friends
     • Can improve reaction times and hand to eye coordination
     • Some games can be intellectual and educational
   • Disadvantages of gaming
     • Gaming is addicative and can take up a lot of time that could be used for productive things like work
     • It can be expensive to buy all the equipment
     • Gamers lack physical activity and can become unfit

3. Online Shopping

   • Online shopping enables the user to browse the website, choose the item, add to shoppnig cart, check out using a form of card and then wait for it to come to you.
     • Example of online shopping
       • supermarkets- register with the shop, choose your items and a delivery time and date and then checkout)
   • Advantages of online shopping for the customer
     • Online shops are available 24/7
     • Prices are often lower due to the business having fewer overheads
     • You can shop around for the best deals for any item
     • For people who live in remote areas it is easier because they dont have to travel
   • Disadvantages to the customer
     • You don't immediately receive the product and you must be at home for it to be delivered
     • Not easy to determine the quality of the product
     • Returning faulty goods can be expensive and inconvenient
     • Security concerns about someone gaining fraudulent access to your account
   • Advantages to the shop
     • Increased trade compared with a high street shop
     • They have a larger global marker than highstreet shops
     • Online shops have lower operating costs, the savings can be passed onto the customer to increase trade
   • Disadvantages to the shop
     • Difficult to build customer loyalty as little face to face is had
     • If the website is down, customers can be lost
     • Security is a majoy issue- fraud and lose money

     • The internet is now widely used in school as a research tools which saves childen from having a lot of paper and books.

       • All students can individually access the same resources
       • Cost effective for schools as purchasning internet access gives a large range of resources
       • Websites can be presented in an interesting way with videos and sound
     • Disadvantages of the internet
       • Some information on the internet may be incorrect or biased
       • If the school netowrk goes down the internet is unavailable and the school may not have adequate references to books
       • It is difficult to remain focused at home
   • Webinars are interactive conferences using internet based technology
   • Computer based training
     • Advantages of CBT
       • No instructor or teacher is needed
       • The sudent can work at a reasonable speed to suit them
       • Student can be motivated by the high quality features(audio, video)
     • Disadvantages of CBT
       • There is a lack of discussion and social interaction
       • Student needs a high degree of motivation
       • It is not possible to ask question and for advice
       • The courses are usually expensive amd only feasible is an organisation has a lot of students doing it
