Resource summary

Atoms, elements and compounds
  1. Mixtures can be separated into simpler substances with fewer parts.
    1. A compounds can be broken down into simpler compounds or its elements.
      1. Elements are substances that cannot be broken down by chemical reactions into simpler substances.
        1. Inside the atom
          1. Sub-atomic particles have both a charge and a mass. You can work out the mass of an atom by adding together the numbers of protons and neutrons.
            1. Since an atom had equal numbers of protons and electrons, the charges cancel out.
              1. Neutrons have no charge and are neutral.
                1. The sum of the number of protons and neutrons in an atom is its mass number.
