Resource summary

General Systems Theory
1 What Is General System?
1.1 Model of set of interrelated principles and concepts that explains an organizations complex entities.
2 What Is General Systems Theory?
2.1 General Systems theory is extremely generic and can be applicable to many different fields.

Annotations:

  •    La teoría general de sistemas es muy genérica y puede ser aplicable en muchos campos diferentes.
3 History of General Systems Theory
3.1 Over time, systems theorists were trying to develop a theory that explained all systems across all fields.
3.2 In 1936, Ludwig von Bertanlanffy developed the General Systems theory to solve this problem.
3.3 The theory was further developed by Ross Ashby in 1955.
3.4 Biography of Bertalanffy
3.4.1 • Born September 19, 1901 in Atzgersdorf, Austria • He studied philosophy of science and biology and eventually to study biology at the University of Vienna • He wrote the most famous book on the General Systems Theory • He also published the individual growth model • He died in Buffalo New York in 1972
3.5 Biography of Ashby
3.5.1 • Born September 6, 1903 in London • He studied and became a doctor at Cambridge University. • He was President for the Society of General Systems research from 1962-1964 • Was widely influential in Cybernetics, Systems Theory, and complex systems • He died in 1972
4 GST Facts
4.1 • Bertalanffy expressed that real systems are exposed to, and work together with, their environments and can obtain qualitatively new properties through development resulting in constant development • The same concepts and principles of organizations underlie different disciplines (sociology, biology, business, technology, etc.) providing a basis for their unification • System concepts include - System environment boundary - Input - Output - Process - State - Hierarchy - Goal Directedness - Information
5 How is GST Relevant to Us?
5.1 • As mentioned before the General Systems Theory encompasses all disciplines that utilize systems • As time and technology has evolved, there has been great emphasis on Information Systems • Many organizations such as IBM and Texas Instruments rely on this theory to help their business run efficiently
6 Information System
6.1 System consisting of the network of all communication channels used within an organization
7 Network Security System
7.1 The objective of network security includes protection of information and property from theft, corruption, or natural disaster, while allowing the information and property to remain accessible and productive to its intended users.
