    1. In reports to a rally of protesters, who were unarmed and were trapped in a small square with no escape
      1. Later taken court for a trial and sent home from duty back to Britain

        2. Led a small group of infantry and a vehicle with a mounted machine gun
          1. Due to the nature of the entrance to the square the people were in the vehicle had to stay outside
            1. The infantry were commanded to fire and were only stopped because they ran out of bullets
            2. Said he did it to protect British rule, due to the rebellions that had happened just before this event
              1. Some began to try and justify his decisons
                1. Had supporters and non-supporters back in Britain
