1. Sexual Discrimination

   • not hiring a woman because the boss thinks she won't fit into a traditionally male workplace
   • offering women and men different rates of pay or benefits for the same job

2. Racial Discrimination

   • the banning of wearing headscarves, or insisting on the wearing of skirts, at work or at school
   • an employer insisting that someone has English as a first language.

3. Age Discrimination

   • You were fired because your boss wanted to keep younger workers who are paid less.
   • You didn't get hired because the employer wanted a younger-looking person to do the job.

4. Discrimination against Disabilities

   • A restaurant owner refuses to serve you because they fear that it will upset the other customers if you have a seizure.
   • A college refuses to admit you because you have epilepsy. They think that if you have a seizure it will disrupt lessons.

5. Physical features discrimination

   • Not hiring someone because they're not 'attractive' enough
   • Not hiring someone because they have tattoos or piercings

6. Religion Discrimination

   • refusing you a bank loan because you're Jewish
   • requiring all your employees to dress in a particular way if this means they can’t wear an item of clothing they regard as part of their faith.

7. Marital Status Discrimination

   • a single person, who has the same experience and qualifications as yourself, is promoted instead of you simply because he/she is single while you are married or in a civil partnership.
   • Not hiring someone because they're married

8. Sexual Orientation Discrimination

   • a shop assistant bars someone they know to be gay from the shop where they work because they are prejudiced against gay people.
   • an insurance company insists that a man applying for life insurance takes an HIV test before they will give him life insurance. His application form shows he is gay by referring to his male partner

9. Industrial Activity Discrimination

   • Being asked about industrial activities at a job interview and then refused the job because of answer, despite being the best candidate
   • Being fired due to industrial activities that you participate in

10. Discrimination against pregnancy

    • A company contracting services from a temp agency takes on a worker who later tells the employer she is pregnant. The company tells the agency not to send any more female workers who look like they are pregnant or are of child-bearing age.
    • A new employee notified her manager after one week of employment that she was pregnant. Not long afterwards, her employment was terminated.

11. Political Discrimination

    • Being fired because your employer finds out you support the Conservative Party
    • Not being hired because you do not support the Liberal Party

12. Discrimination by Assioation

    • A landlord refuses to rent an apartment to you because your co-tenant is a woman with a young child.
    • A restaurant owner refuses to serve you because you are with someone who is a member of a racialized group.
