Speed and Velocity
1 Speed = distance/Time
2 If an object is speeding up it is accelerating
3 If an object is slowing down it is decelerating
4 A speed tells us how fast an object is moving
4.1 20km/h
5 Velocity
5.1 Velocity tells us how fast and in which direction an object is moving
5.1.1 e.g 20km/h northwards
6 Distance Time graphs
6.1 When an object is stationary, the line on the graph is horizontal
6.2 When an object is moving at a steady speed, the line on the graph is straight, but diagonal.
6.3 Note that the steeper the line, the greater the speed of the object.
6.4 yaxis = distance
6.5 x axis = time
7 Measures of speed
7.1 m/h
7.1.1 Miles per hour
7.2 km/h
7.2.1 Kilometres per hour
7.3 m/s
7.3.1 Metres per second
8 Speed Time graphs
8.1 When an object is moving with a constant speed, the line on the graph is horizontal.
8.2 When an object is moving with a constant acceleration, the line on the graph is straight, but diagonal.
8.3 When an object is moving with a constant deceleration, the line on the graph is straight, but diagonal (sloping down).
8.4 y axis = speed
8.5 x axis= time
