AS Level Social Approach (Milgram's variation study of obedience) Mind Map on Milgram's Variation (1965) Description, created by ayahm196 on 04/26/2014.
To test of obedience in
the Milgram procedure
would be affected in the
presence of rebellious
and obedient fellow
participants.
PROCEDURE
80 participants aged 20-50 took
part, matched for age and
occupation as in Milgram's
original. There were two
conditions of the study. In one of
the experimental conditions, the
participants worked with two
rebellious stooges. One stooge
stopped giving shocks at 150V
and the other at 210V. In the
second experimental condition the
participants worked with two
obedient stooges, who gave the
shocks without protests.
RESULTS
Rebellious condition - 50% refused to
carry on past 150V. 15% went to 450V.
Obedient condition - 72.5% went to full
450V.
CONCLUSION
The behaviour of the stooges had an
affect on the obedience rates of the
participants.
