Farming & Plants
Photsynthesis
Water
Roots take water from soil. Roots adapted to job by being spread out and having root hair cellsthat increase surface area.
Carbon Dioxide
Air containing carbon dioxide diffuses through holes called stomata. The gas is then used for photosynthesis
Organic and Intensive Farming
Organic
No man - made fertilisers, weeded by hand, not much machinery used
Animals have plenty of space to roam, are fed naturally therefore making more muscle
Intensive
Animals have confined spaces, and are force fed high calorie food. These become fatty animals.
Man made fertilisers containing potassium, nitrogen and phosphorous, lots of machinery used
Structure of a Leaf
1. Cuticle
A waxy layer at the top of the leaf to protect it.
2. Upper Epidermis
A wall of cells under the cuticle
3. Palisade Cell
A typical plant cell, filled with chloroplasts that absorb light energy
4. Xylem & Phloem vessels
Xylem vessels carry water back to the plant, and are tubes with thick walls
Phloem vessels carry food, and have thinner walls
6. Guard Cells & Stomata
The stomata are holes on the bottom for the air to come through, and guard cells control airflow and keep out bad things
5. Spongy Cells
Cells between the palisade and guard cells
