    1. Hot magma under the earth's crust
      1. Tectonic plates move past each other and disrupt the magma which rises up to the surface at a particularly weak part of the crust
        1. Volcanoes appear where tectonic plates meet

          2. Predictions?
            1. Geologists study volcanoes and the earths crust to try and guess when an eruption will take place
              1. Warnings
                1. Increase in volcanic temp
                  1. High levers of sulphur near volcano
                    1. Minor earthquakes take place
                  2. Advantages
                    1. Brings in tourists to see the dramatic scenery
                      1. Very nutrient soil is very good for crops
                        1. Very good place for the renewable source of geothermal energy
                        2. Disadvantages
                          1. Volcanoes can cost lives
                            1. Landscapes can be lost or damaged forever
                              1. The ash mixed with rain can create mudslides
