Growing, growing, gone.Do you remember the times when you used to fantasize about having children? Imagining their first days at school and how cute they would be. Then when they arrived, you thought back to the past and mentally face-palmed yourself; screaming, "What was wrong with me!". Don't get me wrong, I love watching my children grow up, but when the teenage years were fast approaching, I began planning a very long holiday- without them."It's a rich man's world" Not.Anytime I dare to venture into the pig sty upstairs, (I think they call it a bedroom?), there is always some form of request. This becomes second nature to them; in the presence of someone accessing a credit card. I'm sure that you may 'need' that new phone (for how much?), and I'm certain you can't possibly live without those shoes. But you've survived so far, I am sure you'll manage. Back in the day, we didn't dare refer to our parent for money. It was chores to their standards (not yours), then maybe they'd give you something of use. Children of today; especially teenagers, are so very priviledged with their ipods and laptops. I swear my children are wealthier then me; individually. Any mention of chores and they look abosolutely digusted, as if handing out the idea of manual labour! I only hop that my little angels don't allow money to go to their heads; making them into people who can't hold onto their money for two measly seconds.I always make the effort to encourage my children to be themselves. Like when my daughter decieded she wanted to be a fairy, I made that happen. But as the years continue their ideas of themselves become a bit... too expressive. This includes the project of having to explain to my child that luminous redheads aren't appropriate hair colours for school. However this always seems to end up in snarky comments and a well-written detention slip the following day. There is also this false impression that when you become a teenager you are free to emerge into the streets of scoiety. I mean quite frankly, it completely puzzles me as to where they may have heard it. Doesn't it confuse you? Don't people understand that releasing your children on a daily basis to school is tortue enough?Independence day.Remember when your arms ere like leads inconstant use by your children? You could not go anywhere without them forcefull replacing your shadow. They even loved you enough to sit outside the toilet and wait for you. What happened? The idea of becoming independent that infected their minds, that's what! I can't even ask my children if they require assistance with homework; without them instictively shooing me away. In my opinion I think that teenage years begin as early as six years old. Ever had a six year old hastily remove your hand from their after crossing the road? Then when they sprint away from you like they're competing in the Olympics! Been there, done that and have the red faces of laughing teenagers to prove it.To be honest I really respect teenagers, they have to deal with so much all at once and all by themselves. Even though they draw you to the point of becoming deaf from the consitent arguing; or force you penniless with their constant new intrests, they're alright. Most of the time. Sometimes. They are a down-size of adults, so they need their space and (sigh) their freedom. So as a parent I'm going to start a  fresh, step one: walk in their shoes.A* Excellent vocab, tone and range of punctuation.
