Depleting global resources due to high demand and consumption. We are reaching the peak of our oil supplies, or possibly on the slow decline.
Oil
Supply
Middle East- Saudi Arabia 25% of worlds resources-
-Kuwait has 4x less than Saudi Arabia- less than a day of oil production could supply Australia for 3 days.
Russia and UK
North America
North Sea and Canada (Alberta - tar sands)
40 years remaining of proven reserves although how long they will last is unknown
Consumption
Western Europe and Japan are heavily dependent on imports (link to trade)
USA is the worlds largest per capita consumer but they also produce a lot
Middle east is also a large producer and consumer
Rapid industrialisation/development in China and India resulted in rapid rise in demand for oil in industry and transport
Poorer countries consume less oil per head e.g. Brazil, Central African countries e.g. Chad, Sudan
Australia’s tourist industry consumes large amounts of oil (aviation fuel)
Trade
USA is the world’s largest per capita oil consumer.
Russia largest exporter
