embryology of the lungs & pleural cavity

overview of the thoracic cavity

in 4-6 week old embryo, the respiratory system begins to develop

process

1. lung buds appear (see pic)

2. more pouches are made

3. lung buds push their way into the pericardioperitoneal canals, taking the visceral pleura with them

4. premature lung is made ! :)

divided into 3 cavities - left pleural cavity, right pleural cavity and mediastinum

left pleural cavity- left lung inside

right pleural cavity- right lung inside

mediastinum- trachea, heart, (in the pericardial sac) oesophagus, blood vessels, nerves
