INTROGet attention "GATHER ROUND EVERYBODY!"Welcome to BATL!Introduce self and partner "Hi! My name is Kristine and this is.....and we are you AXE AMBASSADORS! YOU CAN AXE US ANYTHING! (HAHAHAHAHA!)Congrats to Birthday person, bachelor/ette, etc. and/or Thank you to whoever booked the event.Brief summary "So here's what's going to happen... your group will be divided into pools for a round robin tourney and the top throwers from that will go on to play in an elimination playoff to determine the champion for the day.Look around you...these people are no longer your friends, but your sworn enemies...axethrowing is not a team sport....in BATL, it is every man/woman for themselves!!! "FORMAT/MATCH STRUCTUREEach match consists of 3 rounds of 5 axes per round for a total of 15 throws each. You must win 2 out of the 3 rounds to win the match, with the highest score winning each round.Whether you win or lose the first 2 rounds we always play the 3rd round, because the total score you throw could be the deciding factor if two players have the same amount of match wins.SCORINGThe BLACK RING, or BULLSEYE is worth 5 pointsThe Red Ring is worth 3 points and the BLUE RING is worth 1 point"The area outside of the rings won't score you any points, but at least your throws are sticking!"If your axe lands between 2 point values we go by majority rules and the paint is in the favour of the thrower.*WALK UP TO THE TARGET WITH THE AXE**HOLD AXE SIDEWAYS*Demonstrate:That means this would be a 3 (hold axe against the target with a clear majority in the 3 point area with a small bit in the 5 point area)This would be an obvious 5(hold axe with a clear majority in the 5 and a small portion in the 3 area)This would also be a 5 because it is all in the paint and the paint is in your favour!(hold axe with blade all in the black paint)Now sometimes you may see something like this...(hold axe as close to 50/50 between the 5 and the 3 point areas)So in a situation like this where it unclear what points should be awarded, always check first with your opponent. If the opponent agrees on the higher point value then the points are awarded and the match continues...But if your opponent (is a jerk and) disagrees, that is what we term a "scoring dispute" and that is when we bring out...THE DEVICE!!!*GESTURE TO TEAM MATE WHO WILL BE HOLDING UP THE DEVICE AND DEMONSTRATING ITS USE*We will use the device to find out how many points are to be awarded.CLUTCHFor the first 4 throws of your round, you and your opponent will throw at about the same time, but after the 4th throw, we will let you know what the score is.Let's say ---name--- and ---other name--- are throwing great and after 4 throws ---name--- is up by 2 pointsWe will say "---name--- is up by 2 points, ---name--- throws first."If ---name--- throws a 3 then ---other name---knows that they need a bullseye to tie, but if ---name--- throws a Bullseye then that means they are up by 7 and a Bullseye just won't cut it!BUT ALL IS NOT LOST!!!!That is where these green bad boys come into play! These are called CLUTCHESand CLUTCHES ARE WORTH AN AWESOME 7 POINTS!!!!BUT...You can only throw clutch on your 5th and final throw of the round. But be aware, this is an ALL OR NOTHING thing....if you call CLUTCH and then hit the bullseye...tough luck you don't get any points for that. It's like calling your shot in a game of pool.It is a challenging throw, but on the plus side, as long as your touching the paint the shot is good!So just to practice... I want to hear everybody yell CLUTCH as loud as they can... 1... 2... 3...CLUTCH!!!!BIG AXE TIE BREAKERNow lets talk about tiesThere are 2 ways to tie at BATL:You can tie all 3 rounds of the matchorThe more likely thing would be to win a round, lose a round and tie a round. At BATL we don't like ties, so we throw this big guy here!*gesture to teammate holding up Big Axe*Throwing the Big Axe is a little different because with the Big Axe, the WHOLE TARGET IS LIVE and it is a SUDDEN DEATH SHOOTOUT!That means that you and your opponent will each throw one time, and the best throw wins! And when I say the whole target is LIVE, that means that this (demonstrate a zero to the side of the point area) that was once a zero is now a good throw! If you hit here (the zero) then your opponent needs to hit a 1, 3 or 5 to beat you.If they don't stick the axe, YOU WIN!If they also stick in the zero, then you tie and you throw again....we will do this up to 3 times in an attempt to declare a winner. But if the match isn't decided by 3 throws, then we will have to call the match a tie because we don't have all night!Everybody got it?CAN I GET A HELL YEAH!!!HOUSE RULESHere at BATL, we want everyone to have fun and to play safe, so I have a few HOUSE RULES to fill you in on before we get this tournament startedWhenever you are done throwing, ALWAYS put your axe BACK DOWN ON THE BLOCK!NEVER hand the axe off to another person, ALWAYS pick it up from the block and put it back done on the block when you are done. When throwing a match, ALWAYS WAIT until BOTH players have thrown their axes before you approach the target to retrieve them.Remember...THROW TOGETHER, RETRIEVE TOGETHER!Washrooms are over there *gesture*Smoking outsideAnd all drinks must remain in this space, so if you are heading to the washroom, or outside to smoke leave your drink in here.SOUND GOOD?CAN I GET A HELL YEAH?Alright, so on these lanes *gesture* I have (announce first 2 competitors) and over here *gesture to second set of lanes* can I get (announce next 2 competitors)LETS DO THIS!!!!(turn up music)
