The Characters in Silas Marner

Silas Marner a linen weaver from Lantern Yard; his "friend" William Dane framed him of stealing from the church so he was excommunicated from Lantern yard. Once he left Lantern Yard, he went to the town of Raveloe; but it was not as happy as Lantern Yard. After what happened at Lantern Yard, Silas became angry at God and man and lived apart from the villagers. One night when his door was unlocked, Dunstan Cass walked in and stole all of his gold. Silas was in complete depression from this robbery, but later an orphan girl called Eppie came into his life and brought back happiness. Silas was never able to go back to Lantern Yard to learn if he was cleared of his crime, but he is at peace with God and the town of Raveloe. William Dane Silas's "friend"in Lantern Yard. He was not really a friend to him because he framed Silas for stealing money from the church, which got Silas excommunicated from the whole town of Lantern Yard. After Silas was excommunicated, William Dane married Silas's ex-fiancee, Sarah. Molly Farren Godfrey Cass's secret wife. He hated her and did not claim her as wife, keeping the marriage a secret. She and Godfrey had one child, Eppie. Molly was addicted to opium. One New Year's Eve as she was going to tell the Squire that his son married her, she froze to death in the snow carrying her daughter after taking some opium. Eppie Molly Farren and Godfrey Cass' daughter, again Godfrey did not tell anyone about her. And when she was two years old her mother, Molly, died and so she went into Silas Marner's house and fell asleep in front of the fireplace. Silas and she came to love each other and Silas adopted her and cared for her as his own. Squire Cass he was the richest man in Raveloe, and was father of Godfrey and Dunstan Cass. He held a big New Year's Eve party that night. Godfrey Cass he was the oldest brother between Dunsey and him. He is son of Squire Cass. Is tricked by his brother's tricks often and was tricked into selling his horse Wildfire for money. He was married SECRETLY to Molly Farren and secretly had the baby named Eppie. He truly loved Nancy Lammeter and when Molly died they got married. Dunstan Cass he tricks his older brother Godfrey and tricks him into selling his horse Wildfire cause he had to pay someone and had spent all of his money gambling and whatnot. He killed Wildfire and so never got money so he robbed Silas Marner, and then as he was running away he fell into the stone Pit and his skeleton was found in it 16 years later. Mr. Lammeter he is the father of Nancy and Priscilla Lammeter. Nancy Lammeter younger daughter of Mr. Lammeter. Younger sister to Priscilla Lammeter. In love with Godfrey (two way love between them). Once Godfrey saw Molly was dead he proposed finally and they married. She wanted children, got pregnant but the baby died, and she did not want to adopt because she wanted a child to call her own. Wished Godfrey would just be happy in their marriage. Very pretty Priscilla Lammeter oldest daughter of Mr. Lammeter. Older sister of Nancy Lammeter. Not the pretty sister, but she was very good natured and very kind and more outspoken. Priscilla is known for being very blunt. Mr. Crackenthrop the rector of Raveloe Mrs. Crackenthrop wife of Mr. Crackenthrop Mr. Osgood related to the Lammeter's, a well-known parishioner in Raveloe Mrs. Osgood wife of Mr. Osgood, related to the Cass', country lady with a special affinity for Nancy Lammeter, her niece. Mr. Kimble Godfrey's uncle and Raveloe's doctor. Silas went to him the night that Eppie appeared in his house and when he found Molly Farren in the snow, dead. And Kimble went and made sure she was dead and that there was nothing that could be done. Mrs. Kimble wife of Mr. Kimble and she is very much respected in Raveloe. Bryce and Keating Two members of the landed class in Raveloe's vicinity, and friends of the Cass boys. Bryce was the man that was going to buy Wildfire from Dunstan but never got him, and he told Godfrey about what happened to Wildfire. Dolly Winthrop Aaron Winthrop's mother, wife of the Raveloe wheelwright, Ben Winthrop. She visits Silas Marner when he is grieving over the money, and brings him food and encourages him to go to church. When Eppie comes she helps Silas with her and provides him with hand-me-down clothing from Aaron her youngest son. She also tells Silas that he needs to start punishing Eppie, and gives him the idea of putting Eppie in the coal pit. Aaron Winthrop youngest son of Dolly. At first he is scared of Silas and then when Eppie comes he likes him more. He is always around helping Silas and Eppie; he helped Eppie build and keeps her garden going. Falls in love with Eppie and they get married. Ben Winthrop wife of Dolly and father of Aaron. He is the wheelwright in Raveloe during the week, and a Chorus leader on Sunday's at church. Mr. Snell the landlord and proprietor of the rainbow; always is trying to settle any arguments Bob Lundy the butcher and cousin of Mr. Snell Mr. Dowlas the farrier in Raveloe, who shoes horses and tends to general livestock diseases. He is in the Rainbow and is involved in the fight between him and the butcher about if cow meat was good. Goes with Silas Marner and Mr. Macey to Silas' house after it was robbed to check out the scene. Mr. Tookey The deputy-clerk of Raveloe as well as Mr. Macey's apprentice tailor. He is picked on by many people because: he talks with a lisp, can't sing, and gossips Justice Malam the justice of Raveloe Master Kench the constable of Raveloe, He is very sick, so Silas and 2 other men go to him and ask if they can appoint someone as his deputy so why he is sick someone is charge Sarah when Silas was in Lantern Yard, she was his fiancé. She was a young servant woman. She broke up with him once he had been framed for stealing the money from the church by William Dane, and when William says how Silas was visited by the devil in his "fit" and then Sarah thought it was creepy. Sally Oates A local woman of Raveloe whom Silas Marner cured of dropsy with a preparation of foxglove. He cured her even though the Raveloe doctor could not; once he cured her, everyone thought that he was involved in dark magic after this. Solomon Macey a fiddler who went to the Squire's New Year's party Jem Rodney Silas Marner's next door neighbor and Silas automatically blames him for stealing the money because he is the only one that knows where the money was kept. Silas goes to the Rainbow and trusts and believes that Jem really did not steal the money because he had been at the Rainbow the whole time. Mr. Macey Raveloe's parish clerk; he too assisted Silas Marner with the farrier and they went and checked out the crime scene the night that the money was stolen. He is often seen at the Rainbow
