PROPERTIES OF A MODEL:

Let’s break down these properties in simpler terms. Each model has three key qualities that make it useful:

1. Mapping of Reality

A model represents certain aspects of reality using its own elements. This can be done in two ways:

Descriptive: If the model is showing how something currently exists, it’s called descriptive. For example, a model that shows how a current system operates.

Prescriptive: If the model shows something that doesn't yet exist but should be created, it’s called prescriptive. It acts as a guide or blueprint for building something new.

Sometimes, models can be both descriptive and prescriptive. For example, a model might describe a stakeholder’s current ideas while also prescribing (or guiding) what the final system should look like.

2. Reduction of Reality

Models simplify reality by focusing only on certain parts, ignoring unnecessary details. This can happen in two ways:

Selection: Choosing only certain aspects of reality to model, based on what’s relevant.

Compression: Summarizing or combining details to make them easier to understand.

This reduction helps make complex information more manageable and understandable.

3. Pragmatic Property (Purpose-Driven)

Every model is built for a specific purpose or goal within a certain context. This purpose influences what the model includes and excludes.

Ideally, the model only contains the information needed to fulfill its purpose, making it more focused and useful.

In summary:

Mapping: Represents reality (existing or future).

Reduction: Simplifies by focusing only on essential parts.

Purpose: Built with a specific goal, affecting what is included.

These properties help ensure the model is clear, focused, and useful for its intended pur
