How does your media product represent particular social groups. The social group our horror film represented was young adults and teenagers, aging for 15 to 20 years old. We dressed the characters in clothes that the target audience can relate too. The group of friends that are sat in the woods mingling are dressed in very casual clothes. Jeans, jumpers, boots etc. This is so they can fit in with the season and weather and also is what a typical teenager would wear on a winters day so they can relate to them. However, our villain is dressed in full black attire. This can create tensions for the audience as the colour black is always associated with fear, dullness and connotes with the genre horror. Next is the behaviour and the dialect. The behaviour of the friends gathered in the woods is how typical teenagers act. For example gossiping, playing games on their I phones. This can be easily relatable when it comes to teenagers as they are stereo typically known to always be on their phones. On the other hand the behaviour of the villain was strange and non-relatable to the target audience. This makes the audience then want to watch on to see why this character is acting so strange. For example the villain doesn’t show their face, this does give away to the audience that this character must be doing something wrong for them to be so hidden. Next is the dialect. The dialect of the group of friends was kept minimal as we found when doing our research that horror films tend to have little dialect so the audience can focus on the sounds and the mise en scene. This was a common horror convention that we picked up on so took that into consideration when it came to our final cut. We only included 4 lines in a our final cut as we thought this portrayed the horror convention well as the audience is mainly focussing on the sounds which made our film 10 x more dramatic. So where as when it was our rough cut we had a proper shot to shot convention which made the film opening drag out a little and didn’t explain the storyline very well because there was a lack of horror conventions. This was also a positive thing to do when decreasing the amount of dialogue because it made the audience have a clearer understanding of the story line as well as having flash forwards to make it clear what was happening. The characters didn’t use formal dialect but still used language that young adults can understand as well as teenagers who usually use slang so we had a slight mixture between the two. The props we used consisted of all things that a teenager would own. I phones, bags, sweets, and fake blood which is a main convention for a horror film. We included these props for the characters to have because as our target audience was teenagers so they can relate to the actors and seem a lot more interested if they have more knowledge of it. Also like I said, we used fake blood as it is a main convention and is very effective so it made our film a lot more horror like as in the rough cut we didn’t include any blood which made It less gory so this was a thing we did include in our final cut to also make the audience feel more intrigued to why there’s blood on the trees. The location we set our actors was just in a wood one evening before heading back home. Again, this is something a teenager would do and where they would hang out with friends so we thought this would be the ideal location so they can relate to the feelings the actors are having. This is because all teenagers who have been to the woods have experienced some sort of discomfort if hearing noises when being in the woods. Thankyou.
