Egg cells are adapted for reproduction

The main function of an egg cell is to carry the female DNA and to nourish the developing embryo the egg cell contains a large food reserve to do this

When the sperm fuses with the egg the egg's membrane instantly changes it's structure to stop any more sperm cells entering which makes sure the offspring ends up with the correct amount of DNA
