Aims To introduce the physiology of the male reproductive system.  To understand the step-by-step process of spermatogenesis.  To understand the hormonal regulation of spermatogenesis, including the role of the hypothalamus and pituitary glands. Key concepts The hypothalamic-pituitary axis;  The role of the gonadotrophins: follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH);  The process of meiosis in generating the gametes;  Hormonal control of spermatogenesis;  Negative-feedback mechanisms in the hormonal control of spermatogenesis;  The role of the hormones inhibin and testosterone
