Sovereignty and the State-System is when a state has ultimate power over a defined territorial area.. Thus a state has autonomy and freedom to act independently in their domestic and foreign affairs. Following on this; sovereignty is the basis of the international system as it states that states can’t interfere in other state’s affairs. This concept was established by the Treaty of Westphalia
