- 1What is a Computer System?A Computer System is a collection of hardware and software that work together. For a computer to be useful, it must produce an output. To do this the computer needs to receive and process inputs.
- 2What is the purpose of RAM?Random Access Memory is used to store program instruction and data that are currently being used by the processor. It is also called main memory.
It is volatile which means all data is lost within it when there is no power. - 3What is the purpose of ROM?Read Only Memory Is non-volatile memory that retains data even when the power is switched off.
ROM hold the BIOS which includes the bootstrap loader, this is the program which holds the instructions to start up the computer and load the operating system. - 4What is the Motherboard? It Is a circuit board that connects the CPU to the memory and all the other hardware.
Holds both the Processor and RAM.
Contains system buses that are used to connect the CPU to other components - 5What is the CPU?The key purpose of a CPU is to process data by executing instructions.
It coordinates other parts of a computer system.
It is covered by a heat sink and fan to help cool the processor. - 6What is a Hard Disk?It Is non-volatile meaning all data and files stored on it are not lots when the power is turned off.
Provides secondary storage for a computer system storing files and program instructions - 7—
