Flashcards
Module 1
Flashcards do conjunto (9)
- 1What is Power Loss, Voltage Drop and Overheating caused by and how can it be minimised?These 3 take place when the current overcomes the resistance and can be minimised by using cables which have a large cross-sectional area (CSA) and by using shorter cables.
- 2What is Electric Current?Current is the flow of electrons.
- 3What causes current to flow around a circuit?The Electromotive Force (EMF).
- 4What is Potential Difference?Potential Difference is the change in energy levels measured across the load terminals. (Also known as Terminal Voltage)
- 5What does Ohms Law state?As Current and Voltage increases, Resistance decreases (Vice Versa)
R = V/I - 6What is Resistivity?Resistivity is a material's natural opposition to the flow of current.
- 7What is the point of a fuse?A fuse prevents high electrical current flowing through wires that aren't designed to carry that levels of current. It does this by melting the fuse wire if a certain current is exceeded.
- 8How does a miniature circuit breaker work?An MCB will trip a switch to break the electrical current if excessively high current is detected.
- 9Which equation is used to find the fuse rating?I = P/V
Current = Power / Voltage
