Scheduling
Flashcards do conjunto (7)
- 1What is scheduling?Scheduling is a method of completing tasks. This is implemented by the CPU when executing instructions.
- 2What is round robin?Round robin scheduling involves the processing of instructions where they are given a set time limit.
- 3Pros and Cons of Round RobinPros:
- Gives all instructions a fair opportunity
Cons:
- Doesn't consider the priority of jobs
- If a job is not completed, it is sent to the back of the queue. - 4First Come First ServedFCFS implements the style of completing instructions in the method they are in the list. Therefore all the tasks are completed dependent on their order within the list.
- 5Pros and ConsPros:
ALL the tasks are completed prior to resuming to the next instruction.
Cons:
- Priority is not considered when completing the instructions, therefore any important tasks must wait in the queue. - 6Shortest Job FirstShortest job first considers the duration that may be required in order to execute an instruction. If an interrupt does take place, however, it will be able to cut the queue.
- 7Shortest Remaining TImeThis takes into consideration the remaining amount of time needed in order to complete a task. This usually follows on from round robin as it would need to consider the remaining times.
