- 1CPUCentral Processing Unit - processes program instruction. Also called a microprocessor.
- 2Fetch-Execute CycleProcess by which a computer processes instructions.
- 3Clock SpeedThe speed of a computer CPU, measured in hertz. The number of times a second a computer carries out the fetch-execute cycle.
- 4CoreA processing unit within a CPU. CPUs can have multiple cores.
- 5StorageThe hardware of a computer that stores data long term, such as a memory card or hard drive.
- 6MemoryThe part of the computer that stores data.
- 7Cache MemoryA piece of temporary memory. It can refer to a part of the RAM, storage disk, CPU, or any area for storing web pages.

- 9Volatile MemoryIt does not retain its contents when the power is switched off.
- 10ROMMemory or storage that has data stored on it that cannot be changed such as start up instructions for the computer.
- 11Non-volatile memoryIt does retain its contents when the power is switched off.
- 12Virtual MemoryA section of the computer storage drive which is temporarily used as a RAM.
