Flashcards do conjunto (19)
- 1Where is the thyroid gland located?Between C5 and T1 vertebrae in the anterior neck
- 2What muscles cover the thyroid gland anteriorly?Infrahyoid muscles (sternohyoid, sternothyroid, omohyoid, thyrohyoid)
- 3What does the isthmus do?Connects the right and left lobes of the gland
- 4Where is the isthmus located along the trachea?Second and third tracheal cartilage
- 5What attaches the thyroid gland to the cricoid cartilage?Ligament of Berry
- 6What structure of the thyroid gland is present in around 50% of the population?Pyramidal lobe
- 7What attaches the isthmus or pyramidal lobe to the hyoid bone?Levator glandulae thyroideae
- 8What glands are found on the posterior surface of each thyroid lobeSuperior and inferior parathyroid glands
- 9What hormone do the parathyroid glands produce and what is its function?Parathyroid hormone (PTH) - regulates calcium levels in the blood
- 10What veins drain the thyroid gland?Superior, middle, and inferior thyroid veins
- 11Where does the superior thyroid vein arise from and where does it drain into?Arises from the upper pole of the gland and drains into the internal jugular vein
- 12Where do the middle thyroid veins exit from and where do they drain into? They exit the gland laterally and drain into the internal jugular vein
- 13What gives rise to the inferior thyroid vein?Pretracheal plexus
- 14Where do the inferior thyroid veins drain into?Left and right brachiocephalic veins or the superior vena cava
- 15What are the main arteries supplying the thyroid gland?Superior and inferior thyroid arteries
- 16Where do the superior and inferior thyroid arteries branch from?Superior - External carotid artery
Inferior - Thyrocervical branch of the subclavian artery - 17What nodes does lymph drain inot?Delphian (prelaryngeal) lymph nodes
- 18What provides autonomic innervation to the thyroid gland?Superior, middle and inferior ganglion (sympathetic ganglion)
- 19What provides parasympathetic innervation to the gland?External and recurrent laryngeal nerves
