Flashcards
Algorithms.
Flashcards do conjunto (12)
- 1What is an algorithm?A set of instructions that describes how to solve a problem.
- 2How can algorithms be designed?pseudo-code and/or flowcharts.
- 3What is decomposition?A decomposition is breaking a problem down into smaller, more manageable chunks. In programming, this means breaking down an algorithm
into smaller problems that can be solved on their own. - 4What is abstraction?Abstraction is the process of removing unnecessary detail from a problem so that the important details can be focused on. This can make solving the problem easier.
- 5Give one example of abstraction. An example of abstraction is the London Underground map. It details tube lines, services that run on them and the stations. This is all that is required for a passenger to be able to plan a journey from one station to another.
- 6What is pseudo-code?Pseudo-code is a simple way of describing a set of instructions in a manner that resembles a programming language.
- 7What is a flowchart?A flowchart is a diagram that shows an overview of an algorithm.
- 8What is the name of the arrow symbol and what is the usage of it?It is called a line, and it is used to represent the flow from one component to the next.
- 9What is the name of the rectangle symbol and what is the usage of it?It is called a process, and it is used to present an action.
- 10What is the name of the parallelogram symbol and what is the usage of it?It is called an input/output block, and it is used for the user input and to display output.
- 11What is the name of the diamond symbol and what is the usage of it?It is called a decision block, and it is used for when a question determines the next step.
- 12What is the name of the oval symbol and what is the usage of it?It is the called the terminator, and it is used to always mark the beginning and end of a flowchart.
