- 1IdeologyCan be described as a system of ideas and ideals, especially one which forms the basis of economic or political theory and policy.
- 2PropagandaInformation that is biased or misleading in nature, used to promote a political cause or point of view.
- 3Yalta Conference 1945In February 1945, Josef Stalin, Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt met in Yalta Ukraine. This conference came about in the wake of Germany about to lose the war and discussed how to deal with international relations post-war.
- 4Postdam Conference 1945Josef Stalin, Winston Churchill and Harry Truman met at Postdam to discuss issues regarding Germany, reparations and eastern Europe.
- 5'Iron Curtain'This was a barrier separating the Soviet bloc and the West that developed after the spread of communism in eastern Europe after World War two.
- 6CominformCommunist Information Bureau. Stalin set this up to control the communist governments set up in eastern Europe.
- 7'Truman Doctrine'The US would provide money, equipment and advice to any country threatened by communism.

- 14Bay of PigsThe area were Cuban exiles landed in a failed operation attempting to overthrow Castro's communist government in Cuba.
- 15Nuclear Test Ban TreatyThis was a treaty signed by the US and USSR in 1963 aiming to reduce the testing of nuclear weapons.
- 16Military-Industrial ComplexThis is a country's military establishment and those industries producing arms or other military materials. US president Eisenhower invested heavily here during the Vietnamese War.
- 17Guerrilla WarfareA form of irregular warfare in which a small group of combatants use military tactics including ambushes e.g. Viet Cong.
- 18Operation Rolling Thunder 1965This was an aerial bombardment campaign launched in February 1965. It involved the bombing of North Vietnamese cities, factories and the Ho Chi Minh trail.
- 19Agent OrangeA poisonous weed killer to defoliate the jungle and expose the Viet Cong guerrillas.
- 20My Lai Massacre 1968In March 1968, US troops killed between 300-400 civilians in the village of My Lai.
