User Interfaces

1. Graphical User Interface

   • Explanation: This takes advantage of the computer graphics to make the program easier to use.
   • Common uses: Airline self-ticketing and check-in Information kiosks in a public space, like a train station or a museum.
   • Disadvantages: These take up larger amounts of the hard disk, they use more processing power and can be slow for experienced programmers.
   • Advantages: This type of interface is easy to use, easy to explore and you dont have to use complicated commands.

2. Menu Driven Interface

   • Menu Driven Interface is a list of things which the user can choose from to happen on their computer. This makes it simple and quite easy to use.
   • Disadvantages: Certain operations/options cannot be ‘visual’ .Can be time consuming to find a command if unfamiliar with software
   • Common uses: ATM's, Kiosks and Ticket Machines
   • Advantages: User does not need to memorise lots of commands • Easy-to-use program for beginners with minimal training requirements

3. Command Line Interface

   • This is a type of interface where the user types in what they want to do and it will do the thing which has been typed in. This is favoured amongst programmers.
   • Disadvantages: Can be confusing for un experienced programmers and commands have to be typed precisely.
   • Common uses: In a programmers computer
   • Advantages: Control every aspect of your computer, once you learn it properly, it is fast and Good for speed if you have a slow computer.
